symi January Neil

A quick rewind to the relentless heat of mid summer when two young journalists appeared on the island:

They stood in awe as the Symi boat glided into Yialos on still blue water. With childlike enthusiasm they spent the next fortnight doing everything and seeing as much as they could. They came into my photo shop, bought a few cards and went on a two and a half hour walk with James where they listened intently to the talk about the history of the jewel of the Dodecanese, Symi.

Fast forward to real time. January 15th:

I got a phone call from Brian informing me that Jen had e-mailed a copy of a write up that had appeared in the Mail on Sunday; a write up about Symi that included mentions of the shop and James’ walk.

A week later and I managed to get hold of a copy (the e-mailed version was too small to read clearly). With a proud heart and nervous fingers I flicked through the paper until I found us on a double page spread. My eyes danced over the writing. It was a good write up – even though they had misquoted James slightly, the British/allies ‘invaded’ the island in order to liberate it from the German forces etc. And it’s my photo shop not James’ and Jennine is called Jennine not Jenny but hey ho, it was a good promotional piece and a big thank you to the Mail on Sunday.

Roll on April when I have photos appearing in a Swiss ‘homes and gardens’ magazine
