Blog day two
Well, I didn’t expect so many favourable replies so quickly! See below. It seems this blog idea is going to take off as long as I can keep it up to date. I know this is only day two and I must point out that I’m not going to be able to add something every day, and pictures will be added as and when I have any…
Having just written that I went out into the garden to get a few shots to brighten the page and, if nothing else, to show you the weather today. (And the washing line update for anyone who has an interest in the neighbours’ washing, see below.)

Trouble with our house is there's not much to photograph from the roof. Here you can see across to the windmill ridge - obviously you can see more when you’re not looking through the camera. And below is the view down to Pedi. Folk who have been to Symi and know it will be able to work out roughly where the house is and those who have not yet been to Symi… why?

Actually, after working yesterday we didn’t go out until five and then it was to show our holiday DVD to Mr and Mrs Rep – had a very pleasant evening there and then came home so didn’t see anyone, really. Saw George the baker looking fit and healthy pushing a trolley past George the butchers’ shop (young George the butcher) who was actually outside Noufris’ supermarket chatting to Vasilia, Noufris’ wife. (Blimey, spelling!) There were a few punters in at Rainbow and Lefteris’ Kafeneions during the evening. I notice that both are closed in the afternoon now- well Lefteris closes if there’s no one about. For those who follow village life (and I rarely see the harbour life) you may be interested to know that Manolis the dust-cart now favours Glaros and can often be seen in there chatting to George (the taverna) for most of the day.
Actually that brings up an interesting point that has nothing to do with this view:

Nicknames:
I'm using a mixture of real names and my own pseudonyms for folk in this blog – mainly as some people don’t like to be named and others don’t mind. But everyone here has a nickname and sometimes they’re acceptable and sometimes not – I, for one, don’t like some of the ex-pat nicknames for the local folk so I invent my own, or use their real name instead. So if you are not sure who I am talking about… well it shouldn’t matter.
Here's the washing line update:

Our survey said (about the blog idea):
“What a fabulous idea – I love to hear the real goings on in Symi, not just the touristy bits or the bi*ching that goes on on certain websites – your site is just the best!! Have a wonderful Christmas, and here’s to a fabulous 2008 for Symi and its residents.”
“excellent - except Jannie is Jannie not Yianni!
going now to cook egg and chips xxxxxxx”
I made the changes thanks
“Excellent Blog. I'll look forward to hearing daily gossip over the hols.”
Well, I’m not one to gossip but I will pass on any news (that I can) that may or may not be of interest to you. And I will point out now that this isn’t going to deteriorate into what our first commentator said, “the bi*ching that goes on”, that’s not what we’re about. So there.
Today’s news:
Not much really: weather sunny and cold. The electricity didn’t go off yesterday as much as threatened – well not here anyway. There was an announcement yesterday that mentioned 9 to 12 but I think that was for yesterday and not today as the power has been on with no problems so far. The internet keeps cutting in and out though.
Apparently there is some big electrical work needed somewhere and the power (revma) was going to be off all day yesterday but so many people complained (as there is so much to cook before Christmas at this time of year) that the DEA decided to do it in little bits and wait until after the New Year to do the full thing – whatever it is.
We’re going Christmas shopping in the harbour this evening before having dinner at Georgio & Maria’s – which is still open, so I’ll try and get some pics for the next update, which could be tomorrow (avrio) or not.
Off now. Don’t forget to click the archives for things you may have missed, pass this page address to all your friends who might be interested in Symi and send in your comments by email anytime!
I will leave you with a picture of our roses and church – me being arty!
